Level up with an industry relevant online course for as little as $25 per week
This certificate is designed to build your skills in equine care and management, starting with the foundations of horse wellbeing. You’ll begin by exploring different horse breeds, their conformation, and anatomy to understand how these traits affect a horse’s movement, health, and performance. As you advance, you’ll learn about equine behaviour, gaining skills to interpret and manage behaviours for safe handling and effective training.
An essential part of equine care is understanding how to keep a horse safe and healthy in different environments. You’ll study equine facility design, including the benefits and challenges of pasturing versus stabling, and learn how to manage each setting with the horse’s welfare in mind. In the exercise and training modules, you’ll develop skills to create tailored programs that maintain a horse’s fitness and stamina.
In the later stages of the course, you’ll learn about advanced healthcare practices, focusing on how to recognize and manage complex health issues like laminitis, kissing spine, and muscle sprains. Additionally, you’ll build expertise in equine nutrition, learning to create balanced diets for horses at various life stages and activity levels. Finally, you’ll cover the principles of safe and effective horse transportation, equipping you to confidently move horses and participate in events.
The certificate consists of three modules that comprise engaging content in both a written & video format, as well as quizzes and assessments. It also affords students the opportunity to see real-world, practical applications of the core facets needed to work in the equine world.
