This certificate includes comprehensive training in advanced horse care, breeding, and behaviour management, equipping you with expertise in each area. You’ll start by learning to apply and maintain protective gear, such as blankets, bandages, and boots, essential for supporting and protecting horses in various conditions. You’ll develop advanced skills for maintaining horse health, preparing them for events with professional techniques in clipping, trimming, and plaiting, and managing their care while traveling. Additionally, you’ll gain practical skills in organizing and managing horse-related events, from local shows to large-scale competitions, and understand how to run a successful horse-related business, covering everything from daily operations to strategic management.
The breeding component delves into essential practices, beginning with a detailed understanding of reproductive anatomy and physiology. You’ll learn to prepare and care for broodmares effectively, manage the breeding process, and oversee each stage of pregnancy and foaling, ensuring the health and safety of both mare and foal. With training in recognizing and managing common health complications related to breeding, you’ll be equipped to support the breeding process with confidence and professionalism.
In behaviour management, you’ll explore the influences and motivations behind horse behaviour, including how genetics impact temperament and personality, which is especially useful for breeding. You’ll learn to assess and manage behaviour based on horses’ perception and their environment, and interpret their communication and social behaviour for improved handling. The course also covers the management of sexual and reproductive behaviour, utilizing effective learning and training techniques to modify behaviour when needed. Finally, you’ll gain skills to identify and address behavioural problems, ensuring safe, positive interactions in any setting.
